Your thoughts on this game are like a carbon copy of my own. It is such a wonderful and fun game... Until that ending segment. Im really not a fan of that decision, and it did sour me on the whole thing. I pick this game up once every year or so to try again, but can't seem to get past the end. Also dont like that the last segment is kind of unusual in regards to the mechanics. I may take your suggestion and save scum the end, that may be my only hope at this point lol! Also: one way to possibly be less salty about the end is that most old-school schmups make you reset the whole thing once you run out of lives anyways... So maybe replaying the game endlessly is what a normal schmup fan would want to do anyways

11:18 seems inspired by the OOT Bombchu The inventory system of this is like Mega Man with the weapon inventory system of Halo, where weapons have to be switched 22:20 the weapon switch requiring the character to stop firing is to avoid accidentally wasting ammo by accident, weapon switching is a conscious choice. A mechanic like that is also in classic Doom, preventing the player from wasting ammo when attempting to switch to the BFG of that game.

ZeroRanger feels like it wants you to succeed, but it also wants your success to mean something, so it's not going to pull its punches. I hated the TLB mechanic when I first fell for it, but then I realized it's basically an excuse to go back and see how far you've improved if you've been using level select to get back to where you were, and now I appreciate it. Especially since it'd take a lot less time to get back to the TLB the second time around.

I've followed Void Stranger ever since its announcement trailer. Something about how it presented itself, how the puzzles looked (and turned out, _were_) impossible drew me straight into whatever was being cooked up. And given System Erasure's last game, ZeroRanger, I felt like there was something much deeper hiding beneath the presentation. I regret that I managed to avoid that game over scenario you mentioned (thanks me, looking up how to unvoid myself), because after reaching the credits, I went back and found that scene here on UA-cam, and that scene was downright awe inspiring. It's such a good game that's hard to gush about, at least with a party that hasn't played the game themselves. It ain't perfect, it ain't for everyone, but for those who it _does_ click with... It's probably my GotY, and the competition's not even close.

Void Stranger content, we love to see it. As someone who's been there since the start, really hope that more people pick it up.

great review, definitely agree with everything said. also, it took you just 30 hours??? It took me 60 to reach the true true final ending (the dev ending), and even then I still didn't complete what comes after...

I Just tried .flow, and it plays way differently from Cirrus. Where Cirrus feels like you're enjoying the view more. .flow felt like you're constantly in a state of liminality, constantly moving around tunnels. Yume Nikki is a balance between the two.

Hi there I'm the creator, Judithan! Man its so odd that one selection didn't work for some reason :(( I bug tested it and it worked fine on mine and one of the other people who made a video on it. I wonder why it didn't work OTL but to answer the question of "where did the blood come from" it's supposed to be that one selection piece that didn't work says that there's deep claw marks on the wall, implying a beast of some sort is hunting in the cave. The protag ends up sticking their hand in a puddle of blood from said hunt But I'm rly glad you enjoyed it!

"lets get some X why not" is an ... interesting strategy xD if you overfill your deck it becomes random what you deploy (so spiders get stronger the more non-spider things you have, since they blow themselves up less frequently)

I promise there are actually more than just noodle fish in the game, but I thought it was pretty funny how that was the only one you ever happened to see.
